The Story of How 'The Shawshank Redemption' Become a Cult Classic

A dud at the box office when it opened 20 years ago this week, The Shawshank Redemption now perennially tops IMDb’s favorite-movies list—the ultimate in “guy cry” cinema. A story of studio maneuvering, big paychecks deferred, and well-earned roof suds.

The 'Shining' Nicholson

The classic horror flick I revisit every time I want a taste of Jack 'Phenomenal' Nicholson. His genius is in full play in this scene where he is seen hallucinating and slowly going insane. Importantly, 3:59-4:40 (in the video) shows where Heath Ledger could have possibly got his inspiration for his version of the Joker.

JEREMY BRETT - The Holmes Incarnate

No doubt about it...Cumberbatch is wonderful as the new-age Sherlock...I liked even Robert Downey Jr in the recent movie versions.
But to me (and, I am sure, to many others) Jeremy Brett will always be the 'elementary' Sherlock Holmes INCARNATE. He was born to play Holmes.
Television in the 80s (Doordarshan) would have been half as good as it was but for this outstanding series by Granada TV (UK). Till date, it remains the best ever (and the most faithful) adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's work.
(After watching this clip, I am now seized by the mad urge to buy the entire DVD set of this series).
